We had tons of fun with the Poppins Book Nook blog series last year and we will be continuing that fun all throughout 2014. This month's theme was, "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" Keep reading to learn more about the books we read, fun crafts we made and be sure to grab your FREE journal page too. There is also a giveaway is at the end of the post!
We read several fabulous books for this months theme: From Cycle to Spaceship, Eureka! It's an Automobile, Transportation From Cars to Planes, Trains, The History of Transportation and I Stink. The children's favorite was Eureka! It's an Automobile. In this book everything from the history of automobiles to how automobiles work is covered. They also enjoyed Trains and Transportation from Cares to Planes.
Journal Pages:
I made this Vehicle Journal Page to go along with our reading! I hope you enjoy it. Download your copy here or click the picture below. It is a great journal page for road trips too.
Here the fun project we did to go along with this months theme.
Recyclable Vehicles
Materials:
-Various recyclable materials (containers, toilet paper tubes, cans, etc)
-Felt, pom poms, craft foam, stickers
-Markers
-Glue, tape
-Scissors
What to do:
1. First have children decide what kind of vehicle they wish to make.
2. Next let them construct their vehicle using recyclable materials. If they want the vehicle's wheels to move they will need to make sure they create working axles, which is a fun scientific lesson.
3. After the vehicle is constructed let the children decorate it with felt, foam, pom poms, stickers, markers, etc.
4. Have hours of fun driving and flying the vehicles!
