A moms review:
We love books so whenever we have an opportunity to review a book (or 3) we jump at the chance. We especially love books that challenge our little aliens (I mean children) and allow them use their minds and learn something new. And Alphabet Aliens did just that! The first 3 books in the series feature the phonetic alliterative adventures of Alphie, Bebe and Coco! This series is out of this World and will introduce your children to lots of fun, new words and adorable divers characters!
The new book series is designed for children ages 4 and up, though slightly younger children will definitely enjoy them as well. There are currently 3 books in the series and there are plans to have one for each letter in the alphabet! The books are 6 x 6 soft covers and each have 32 pages. They are the perfect size for little hands and small enough to be thrown into a bag or pocket for on the reading! The retro illustrations are bold, colorful and fun too!
Here are some photos of the inside of the books and my kids having some fun writing down their favorite words from the books.
Each book in the Alphabet Alien series features its own adventure. and focuses on a unique alien and particular letter of the alphabet. My daughter loved Coco because she can change color and she has a chameleon named Clyde. My son loved Alphie because he adores apples and has a pet anteater names Abigail.
Here are some of the aliens:
-Alphie
-Bebe
-Coco
-Dez
-Elvis
-Flo
-Gus
-and more....
I love these books for so many reasons. First they are more linguistically challenging than other kids books. Children will be introduced to lots of fun, challenging, new words like: to no avail, aghast, confounded, crimson, barged, balderdash and more. As a mother of a 7 year old who has a very extensive vocabulary I really appreciate books that challenge her and introduce her to more amazing words. She loves words and is always asking what the meanings of particular words are when I read to her. So my second favorite thing was that in the back of each book there is a guide to "tricky words," which has the definitions for several of the astonishing words! These books not only introduce amazing words to your children but they also help build imaginations, teach important character traits, improve critical thinking skills and introduce some basic math too, which is reason number three I love them. And the fourth reason I love them, is that my kids LOVED them. I have read the books several times since they arrived and they are new favorite.
I used them as a read aloud for my 6 and 7 year old but hopefully in a few months they will become independent readers for my daughter (who is making great strides with reading).
