A moms review:
We had the pleasure of watching a fantastic new Christmas movie called, Coming Home For Christmas. This movie is a great family movie to watch during the holidays. My 6 and 7 year old enjoyed it very much and learned a few good important lessons from it too.
The movie is 87 minutes long and does not have a rating. The movie was produced by Nasser Entertainment. The movie plays out much like a Christmas Hallmark movie (I'm sure you are familiar with many of those) and will actually air in December on the Canadian CMT channel. The DVD includes a making-of featurette with comments from the cast and director and some behind-the-scenes production footage and film excerpts. There is also a trailer of the movie. In the case you will find a nice, thick case-sized color cardstock "Special Edition Reprint" "of Norman Rockwell's Christmas illustration used to promote Plymouth cars. You will also find a unique code for your complimentary Vudu streaming digital copy of the movie.
The movie does not hold a rating though if I had to give it one I would give it a PG rating. Throughout the film some of the family members argue. At one point a teen steals a treasured possession and lies about it. A death of a soldier is mentioned briefly There is jealousy between two siblings. There is some kissing and possible infidelity of a certain character is alluded to.
In this heartwarming, tear-jerking, funny movie a family comes together to reunite for the holidays in the place where it all began. The movie starts out with sister Kate O'Brien (Carly McKillip) walking out her sisters Melanie's (Britt McKillop) wedding. Though Kate has good reasons and intentions it places a wedge between the two sisters who go 5 years without speaking to one another.
But when their parents, Al (George Canyon) and Wendy O’Brien (Amy Jo Johnson) separate, Kate realizes that something needs to be done in order to reunite the family back together. And so Kate sets out on a mission to figure out how to have Christmas at their old family home which was foreclosed on and sold to a new owner. Kate thinks that if she gets her family back together in their home for one more Christmas where they can be reminded of their special memories and happy times together that the hurt, pain and misunderstandings will go away! And she may just be right....
But in order for her plan to work she needs to convince the new owner, Mike (Ben Hollingsworth) a woodworker and Marine veteran helping to raise Ryan, his deceased Army buddy’s son that he should let her borrow the house for one day. Kate pleads with Mike and he finally agrees but only if Kate goes on a date with him...of course it has romance doesn't every Christmas movie?
This movie is a terrific family movie with something for everyone...comedy, romance, suspense! The movie focuses on what the holidays should truly be about which is family and making memories together. It teaches children very important lessons about how no matter what families always need to be there for each other through the ups and downs and that it is never too late for a family members to reconcile and come together again.
If you like music, especially country music then you will love the final scene where Carly and Britt McKillip, George Canyon and Jordan Macintosh sit around the Christmas tree and fire place singing a song together as a family.
