Pen Pals are a great way for kids to take a journey around the World without leaving home. Through corresponding with Pen Pals kids can learn about geography, social studies, history and even science. Not to mention since they are writing that covers language arts too!
J is for Journey!
Here are a few simple ways your kids can make Pen Pals!
1) Put together an Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box. You still have a few more days to get a box put together and dropped off (November 12th-19th is National Collection Week). Or you can even put together a box online using the NEW Build A Box feature. So how can your child make a pen pal via Operation Christmas Child? It's simple send a card or letter in the shoe box along with your return address. You can even mail a photo of your family. Also if you make your shipping donation online you will be able to track your box and find its destination. We are also planning to do a mini lesson on the country where our boxes are blessed to land.
There is also a great "All About Me" printable that your children can fill out to send along with the shoe box. My kids had a blast filling these out and are looking forward to hopefully making a Pen Pal.
2) Check out Pen Pal Kids a safe and fun way for kids to make online Pen Pals. Read my full review here. Gwyn loves this educational website. She enjoys learning about other countries (through the games) and sending letters to her friends.
3) And of course there is always writing to friends you don't get to see all time. Gwyn has lots of friends all over Georgia that she doesn't get to see on a regular basis so she likes to send them cards, drawings, etc.
