A week in the life of homeschoolers - Week 25

Week 25:
We had a good week but we didn't get a lot of "formal" homeschool work done.

Gwyn is still working on reading with her Bob Books and still loving them. Did you see my, I mean Gwyns review? Monday we made some MLK crafts and took the Founders Academy online class called Happy Birthday MLK. It was a great experience and the kids (well Gwyn) learned a lot. Rowyn fell asleep. On Wednesday we did art club with our new homeschool meetup group, which we love. And in the afternoon Gwyn attended her online American Girl Club which is offered for FREE though CurrClick. With the help of mommy (I type for her) she discussed the book with the moderator and other girls. Afterward we made handmade butter using heavy whipping cream and a jar. We shook it until our arms fell off. Then we had toast with the handmade butter and some tea. Gwyn decided to dress up and we did some pretend play. Rowyn was Ben a character from the book and they gave me their etiquette teacher the name Rosa Bell. I taught them to eat and drink like proper children and then we learned to dance. On Thursday we joined our meetup group for some homeschool PE at Escalade Gym They offer a homeschool day every month. There are  large and small rock climbing walls, slides and ropes.

I have also started teaching the kids about virtues and found some really great videos online. They are FREE to watch (link below) and called "Adventures From The Book Of Virtues. The show used to be on PBS. It teaches kids about compassion, honesty, promises, friendship, etc. And on Thursday when my friend called to tell me she was very sick again and had to go the hospital it was a perfect time to show the kids several of those virtues in action (compassion, friendship and helping others in need). She had no one to take care of the kids since she is a single mother and their father was unable to take them for the week. So we opened our home to her two kids (who are best friends with our kids and also homeschooled) and they will be staying with us until this Friday.

Friday we spent the day getting ready for Gwyns 6th birthday party. I had a few last minute things to get and I had to bake a cake. It was a sleepover party and there were a total of 5 little girls crashed on my living room floor for the night. Gwyn said it was the best birthday ever and I have to admit it went much better than expected. We played glow bowling, painted finger nails, decorated pillowcases, watched girlie movies and of course ate pizza, cake and ice cream
