A week in the life of homeschoolers - Week 6

We had a wonderful, busy week. I decided to back down on the work I was having Gwyn and the response has been great. I was having her work on phonics, adding/subtracting and reading but now I have her focusing on and reinforcing things she already knows like ABC's, counting, colors, shapes, sounding and rhyming. Here and there I have been throwing in some of the more difficult things but not focusing on it like I was. I finally stopped stressing over the state "time requirement" and "public school mentality". That is why we homeschool right so that we can let our children work at their own pace?

So here is our week in the life of homeschoolers update week 6!

Sunday: Yup homeschool AGAIN on the weekend! We attended the Jewish Nibble and Nosh festival in Marietta. The educational part of the trip was the tour of a Synagogue. Not only was it the kids first time in one but mine too!

The kids got to pet some ducklings, chickens and bunnies.

They also got to play on a giant bouncy slide!

And they tried some falafel!

Monday: Since it was Labor Day and Daddy was off the kids didn't do school. And since it was raining we didn't really do anything too exciting. They did have some fun with potato and apple stamps though.

Tuesday: We did some workboxes and Rowyn had his speech class (which is going very well). Here is what was in their workboxes:

Gwyn: Handwriting (letter B), Spelling (B words that also had -et- and -at- in them), Math (numbers/counting), Reading (ABC Bunny), Craft (Bumble Bee).
Rowyn: Handwriting (letter B)), Puzzle (patterns w/ pattern blocks), Math (counting/shapes), Reading (ABC Bunny), Craft (Bumble Bee).

Wednesday: We had a field trip to the Atlanta Zoo! We also had the privileged of going with two other homeschool families (who got us in for FREE with their memberships). There have been several babies born at the Zoo in the last year so it was a lot of fun getting a glimpse of all of the baby animals. Gwyn is also enrolled in a semester of homeschool classes at the Zoo which will be held once a month from now until December.

Thursday: We sort of took the day off  because I had a very sad, moody little girl. Her cat Pixiedust had to go into the clinic to get spayed and Gwyn was super sad her cat getting surgery. So we had a day of mostly reading library books. Pixiedust's surgery went very well and after a day of recooperation she is back to her normal spunky self.

 Friday: In the morning we attended our local library book sale were we scored some awesome deals. We spent a total or $12.50 and got over 30 books. After the book sale we went to the park pond to check on the ducks and geese and give them some food. Afterwards we did some worksheets and started our Toad unit study.
