Chapter 2 - Changing My Will
This chapter speaks about changing your will through dedication and sacrifice which are definitely things we ALL face as mothers. It was another great chapter which really spoke to me yet again. When we decided to start our family we knew it meant changing our will and making HUGE sacrifices. I think before anyone brings children into the world they should really contemplate if they are ready for such changes.
In order for me to be at home to homeschool our children we had to make a huge sacrifice, which was me quitting my job. This has created an even tighter budget and placed added pressure on my husband to find a better paying job. But we know in our hearts that it is what is best for our children's futures. Sally Clarkson says, "I give up my own desires and sacrifice my gifts and talents so that new life may come from me." Wow this statement is so very true. I know I personally would even sacrifice my own life if it meant saving my children's lives. I know my children are going to do great things and m goal as their mother is to love, raise and teach them so that they will grown into strong fruit bearing trees.
My Life:
One of the personal applications for Chapter 2 was to make a list of things in your life that each child would say competes with his or her time with you. So is the list (which is a combined list from both kids):
Gwyn and Rowyn: Spending too much time on the computer, napping when they are not, spending too much time doing chores, working, grocery shopping.
After making the list you are to choose one thing that you can change or eliminate and tell your child what you plan to do.
Mommy: I plan to change the amount of time I am on the computer during the day. I will not get on the computer for long periods of time during the day and will handle all blogging after 2pm. Weekly school preparation will take place on the weekends in the evenings.
Quotes and Scriptures that really hit my heart:
-Fulfillment will come only when a mother is willing to do God's will. pg 48
-I take some solace, though, in knowing that my sacrifice is like a seed that will produce fruit I cannot yet see. pg 51
-John 6:35 - Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. - So important to remember that God will provide for us and that despite our sacrifices (especially the financial ones) we will be provided with what we need.
